Start here: if a Leviton switch isn't working, the switch is probably not the problem. Check the model number and the load rating before you start.
If you're replacing a switch in an older house, this is the first fork in the road. The no-neutral option is there so you don't have to pull a new wire through the wall, but it's not a universal free pass. The fine print matters. I'd rather spend 10 minutes explaining this than deal with mismatched expectations later — and I've had to explain it a lot.
I can't count how many times a returned switch comes back with the 'bad' terminal screw feeling hand-tight but actually below the manufacturer's spec. Loose terminals create heat, and heat creates failure — so every serious electrician I've worked with uses a torque screwdriver on line voltage connections. If the outlet shows 0V, don't assume the circuit is dead. Move to another outlet on the same circuit, and check the breaker panel. This is a specific thing: an absence of voltage tester (AVT) is the right tool for that job. NFPA 70E calls for a test to verify an electrically safe work condition after lockout/tagout. A multimeter is brilliant for diagnosing, but a proper absence-of-voltage tester checks all phases and confirms zero energy before you put your hands near a terminal.
Motion sensor switches look complicated until you realize most of the programming lives in three settings, not in an app. On a typical Leviton Decora motion sensor switch, the control is usually a small recessed adjustment under the trim. The three things to check are the time-delay dial, the ambient-light override, and the coverage test.
If the light stays on for ten minutes, the dial is probably maxed out. If it won't come on at all, the sensor may be in 'test' mode or the coverage lens is blocked. A simple way to verify coverage: walk across the room and watch the LED indicator on the sensor. If the LED does not light as you move, the sensor can't see that area. That's not a programming problem; that's a placement problem.
The surprise is not how many sensor 'failures' are just a mis-set dial. The surprise is how many instructions are only on the paper insert inside the box, not on the product page. That's why I always tell people: keep that folded sheet until you finish programming. It's not a suggestion, it's the actual manual.
Every now and then, a customer asks me a question that is completely outside my field — like whether an LG F6TC spark plug is the right replacement for their engine. What I can tell you is the same quality principle applies in both worlds: the right part number, verified against the application, is worth more than whatever is on sale.

These checks won't fix every issue. If your Leviton Decora smart switch keeps dropping off Wi-Fi after a clean neutral and proper torque, the problem may be in your router or network configuration.
